About the Journal
Muinaistutkija is a membership journal founded in 1982 by the Archaeological Society of Finland, published four times a year.
Muinaistutkija is a journal that publishes scholarly archaeological research and other archaeology-related texts primarily in the national languages. The journal includes both peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed articles, as well as reviews, project descriptions, commentaries, and lectures. The journal accepts submissions year-round.
The publication of the journal is funded by the association’s membership fees and through support from the Delegation of Scientific Societies.
It is possible to join the association as a regular member (archaeologists), a student member (archaeology students, free of charge), or a supporting member. Membership can be requested from the chairperson via a written application. More membership information is available on the association’s member pages: http://www.sarks.fi/seura.html.
Peer-reviewed articles are reviewed by at least two independent experts, external to the editing board and independent in relation to the manuscript to be reviewed. Muinaistutkija commits to following the conditions established by the Delegation of Scientific Societies for the use of the label for peer review, and peer-reviewed articles are marked with this label. The journal’s editorial board is committed to open and independent publishing. Since 2025, the journal has been published fully open access.
